I have recently been given responsibility for operating and maintenance of a VESTAX VRX 2000, but unfortunately received it in a non-running state. The problem is that there is no sound getting to the cutting head, so there is no sound coming out of the little cutting head speakers, which in turn only produces a cutting of silence. I understand it was working fine before and that it stopped without explanation. The volume line level comes up on the V.U meters, so the audio is getting into the machine, but not to the cutting arm/head.
I would like to know if anyone has had a similar problem to me and if so have you found a solution? Thanks- Neville.C

I have no experience with the Vestax. I did see a unit in operation at the NAMM show when they were introduced. However, logical troubleshooting methods are universal. This is not a feedback design, so there is a power amp driving the cutter. Is there a way of getting to this connection between the amp and the cutter? If so disconect the wiring at this point, hopefully by unplugging it somewhere. Now, take an ohm meter and check for continuity across the cutter head coils. If you read a typical low impedance like a speaker they are probably OK. If open they are blown. If zero ohms they are shorted (also blown). I dont know how you get a Vestax head fixed at this point but someone could re-wind the coils. If they seem OK, the next step is to check the amp to see if it works. You say you can see signal on the meters. Can you connect the amp to other speakers instead of the cutter to see if you hear sound? If not, then the problem is perhaps in the power amp with all that implies - checking for bad fuses, power supply, blown output transistors etc. It is not typical of a stereo system for both channels to fail. Are you sure you are operating it correctly? Can you isolate the input to the power amp and verify you have signal to that point? I never saw the final production unit - only prototypes. Is eveything now integrated into one box or are there several interconnected units? If that is the case how are the cables and are they plugged in correctly?

Confused

vestax vrx2000 dont have cutterhead fuses...if the vu.meters move good you need repair your cutterhead

ask with your local vestax dealer, all the vestax cutterheads repair in japan

i believe you can change with the new cutterhead design, an upgrade

luck

test the drive coils with an ohmmeter, normally have 4 ohms

if you check and dont have continuity...you need to recoil

luck
