Does anyone know of a site for viewing photos of all Recordio models. I have a portable.

Welcome.
They all show up on Ebay eventually! (joke)
Don't know of one site with pix of all models.
What does your portable look like?
78 or multiple speed?
Radio or not?
Dual arms for cutting and playback or only one?
I have seen and/or owned at least 7 models. |

It is the 1C 10 model. 78rpm only with one arm and also has a reel-to-reel tape recorder. I know nothing else about it.

Hi Harvey:
Welcome to the site:)
I've seen pics of that machine. Very clever setup.
Enjoy.

That has to be one of my favorite ones! It is the "swiss army knife" of recorders!
When I had to get rid of a majority of my collection, that was one I kept.
Mine is pretty much unrestored. It needs the mecanical and rubber parts rebuilt but I have managed to (with a new cartridge) have it play records, play tape, and record tape. I have not tried to actually dub tape to disc yet. I wanted to make sure it was not throwing any DC leakage on the cartrdge in cutter mode.
The mechanism was actually made by General Industries. I have seen a picture of a Allied/Knight machine that had the same layout. How someone managed to figure out how to build such a contraption is beyond me! The rim driven turntable drives the leadscrew for the cuttter arm and is also the capstan for the tape recorder. And the little lever moves linkages this way and that to control everything mechanically.
Hope yours is or is on the road to be functional. You never know when you will need to dub that 1/2 track mono 3 3/4ips. 5" reel of tape to a 78 disc or vice versa! |
