Hi,
I was wondering how & more specific HOWMUCH grams of pressure the is on the stylus when you cut disks with a neumann, scully, ...
Can anyone help me on thisone?!

| Weight depends very much on what pitch/depth you are cutting, and whether or not you are using a hot stylus. For typical microgroove recordings on lacquer with a hot stylus, I'd guess at about 20 grams, or 2/3 oz. Sound about right? Now, if you are embossing in vinyl, rather than cutting, you need to go up by a factor of 4 or 5. |

I think that cutting heads do have a recomended tracking weight depends on head neuman SX45 diferent to SX68 too much weight could damage the fragile mechs inside the head.
Post your head spec eg SX? some one hear will prob have some specs on it.

| I know you are after a specific weight, but I have never seen anyone do anything other than start out light and dial up the cutter force until they are getting the corect depth groove for their particular situation. That is what the microscope is for. If that can't be done without producing a noisy rough cut then something else is wrong. Even the home units say to start light and cut a few test grooves, then examine under a magnifying glass to determine if the land area between grooves is about equal to the groove width. |
