You can cut the lites with a sapphire, you don't need a diamond. I do all the time.

I dint know grampian made so many diffrent models are all the models moving iron type?
I think I will use the transco saphire. I only want the lathe to cut my own dance tracks in mono some places have crap sound systems so mono sound best.
I found my lathe on the net Presto 8N heavy modds give it 24 pitches from 83 to 302 LPI from standard 112 LPI lead screw and a Automatic Diameter EQ and Heated sylus previson. the guy who build it also gave me paperwork on the modds electronics and even the article he wrote in broadcast engineering detailing how he built the lathe and it was used at Capital City Sound Recording Co. Columbus Ohio by him self J.D.Harmer. Cant Wait to get amp build to use it..Problaby has not cut a record for 30 years.
Thanks for the info as it wold not be poss to get it running.
p.s. Could you send me the head specs please?

Very interesting stuff.. Thinking of trying to fabricate this. I'd really like to get all those pitches, with my 112 lead screw.

I can take close up photos if you want. You just need 2 carrages for parts . Any probs or questions just pm. me and Il do me best.. I know the mech backwards as when I shipped it got banged and knocked so required strip straighten and reassemble. I can take of parts if need be for close up photos. good luck

Just read email.. prob I have the 1955 original it is very yello and does not scan well.Photocopy I have is better. Can post you the copys no prob just Email me your address and Il post to you.. Il try to get me mate to redraw the diagrams so you can see the figures... shouldnt be alot for postage so dont worry.. happy engineering..
