I'm thinking of getting a small release cut by Peter King (http://home.comcast.net/~cassetto/)... been vaguely meaning to for years but soon I think i really will get my act together and just do so!
Not read much mention of King Records here?, anyone have any experience/thoughts/hints etc? Anyone had stuff cut by him, how is it?
Impressively low prices tho postage from NZ to the UK is a bit of a large chunk of ££.
I like the idea of triangular records but will probably go for total cheapness and just get 7"s made with no artwork + make fancy packaging myself ^_^
I hear the turnaround is sometimes not too fast but I'm in no real hurry...
Looks like it will be a cheap + nice way to get some Cementimental nonsense on vinyl and thus feel legitimate! _________________ http://www.cementimental.com - noise

Does anybody knows if he is still active?
Or can anybody here do the same as him - cutting onto PVC.
I have a few records of this type...they dont sound very good, seems to lack bass and brilliance....
thanks |

| im in the middle of a deal with Peter. I sent him my Masters and Artwork I'm expecting something back from him around December or so. He's a really lovely guy, but has no email address or credit card services so it's all done over phone, snail mail and cash- |

ive done about 10 records with peter.
the quality varies. 10" sounded better at 33 than 45 and on every record ive done. there seems to be a extra delay effect after every track. like an echo in the background or something
. they are cool and fun to do but just get it pressed. |

What's special is that he cuts each record one-at-a-time onto PVC discs. The whole thing has a "cottage industry" feel to it and I guess people like that.
I received an enquiry from Peter many years ago when he was looking for more cutting equipment and he came across as a very nice and genuine guy. I liked his enthusiasm.
The "delay effect" that someone mentioned is probably pre-echo. |

we did some cuts with peter about 10 years ago and the sound was ok (little humm) and the disks were of a hard polycarbonate ..
i have a souri vinylrecorder now and the blanks are the best i have ever used...soft and flexi even better than some pressed vinyl i got done........... _________________ seas of cut grooves |

Peter did a small run of 12"s for me almost 4 years ago. He cuts onto clear polycoarbonate disks which he cuts out of large sheets, they look really cool. The records are in mono, there is a bit of hiss and they sound slightly sped up but I think this all adds to the charm.
I picked up the records in person as I was living about an hour and a half away from him at the time. He lives in a small cottage in a little village located near one of our major ski fields. At the time he was building a huge structure like a glass house onto the side of his cottage. It is framed in timber and clad with polycarbonate (like his records) and he described it as a party room, it has a large swimming pool in it and spare rooms for friends to crash in after a hard nights partying. His record cutting plant is set up in a converted caravan, so it is still portable. He has four lathes all connected to the same source so that he can cut records 4 at a time. Two of them are quite old and large lathes (don't know what they are though, sorry) and I believe he built two of them himself.
Peter is a nice guy. He drives a big yellow mustang and lives his life the way he pleases. Meeting him was definitely an experience I won't forget and if I hadn't met him I probably would not have bought a lathe myself.
Hope this has been interesting. |

| I don't think he told me what he built them out of but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was washing machines. I'd be curious to know whether he built his own cutter heads as well. |

| I don't think he's a dishonest guy. You might need to write him a letter or give him a call (he doesn't have email). Hope you get it sorted out. |

hi.
just have to tell you,
it doesn't take so long time anymore getting records from mr. king. you just have to call him and make your order. for us he has just done 50 7"s in 4,5 weeks including posting them to finland, that is at the opposite side of the world.
i've only spoke to him twice by phone with my bad english but i can tell you he is a really nice and wonderful person. i mean it. we finns mean what we say. |

i still have not got my records back from him. I will have to give him a call.
I was just wondering if he was backed up with orders maybe that was the reason why it was taking so long.
I really hope it did not get lost getting shipped out there because that was alot of money. |

really?!
i think you should really make that call (his number: 64 3 303 9755). hopefully your cash haven't got lost in shipping. i'm sure he'll honestly tell you if he has got your master & cash.
if i remember right he said he has had some technical problems or something or just too much orders and it has really taken much longer than usual to deliver records. but now everything is sorted out by him and back to normal.. |
