i've seen people talk about heating their stylus while cutting.. i'm not really sure how this is done. i have a presto k-10. is this a diy rig, or is this something that comes with most other lathes?
if someone has plans on how to diy rig a heated stylus, can you please share? thanks!

you need a 6vac transformer and a couple of wires, and a thin piece of plastic.

Make 2 holes in the plastic, get some small screws for the holes, attach the wires of the transformer to the screws, and the wires of the stylus to the screws, some how mount it to the cutterhead. Make sure those 2 screws are not touching the cutterhead.

an old tape case should yield you the plastic you need.

i find a couple of elastic bands holding the dc wires, gently woven with the filaments best... with some electrical tape as insulation. that way if the filament catches on a piece of chip, it doesnt rip the whole thing off. hang the wires from the ceiling or something to minimize interference with the weight on the cutter head.
the guys at history of recorded sound in la say the dc should run at about 5.5 amps or so. i've learned that anything much higher than 7 will burn the filaments off.
