So ive been trying to find the right solution to get the right solution so i can make some of my own laquered discs.
excuse me if there is a thread of this already,
any one make their own laquered records before?
my few experiments with plasticy coatings seem to just gunk up and leaving me to cut no smooth grooves, Friend said she had success cutting onto 2 part epoxy molds. What im trying to accomplish here is find a stable coating so i reuse old 45's/10"/12" and various paper/cardboard // misc materials and Ive just coated a bunch of old 45's and cut up cereal boxes with differnet kinds of laquers and am prepare to cut onto them ... im crossing my arms and brain hemispheres that one will work.

So nitrocellulose lacquer is the stuff of choice professionalism plate coating and its mixed with a secret special sauce.
What about just nitrocellllose lacquer? < anyone ?

thanks!!!!!!!

ok no responses? so far for me....

just got done doing first test cuts... getting some sound thru with 2 coats of amber shellac ontop of old 45s but tons of noise ontop of everything, the chip comes off pretty nice in smooth strands (until it hits a uneven coated part) It seems that the sound gets "erased" quite quickly (by tonearm) when it goes into a locked groove ../ possible that it could need a thicker layer.

the ones i did with a old can toxic smelling black laquer thnakfully did not yeild any sound! just say no toxico!

have yet to cut onto the shellaced cardboard!!
