| Okay.. my presto needs oil.. everywhere... The motor, the platter, the arm, everything.. Gears, etc... manual says 3 and 1 oil... can't find that at home depot.. What should I use, I'm starting to hear the mechanical parts on my recordings.. I need some stuff thats readily available.. I'd like to use something that will make these part glide with easy quietly.. |

i believe, teflon oil or grease its ok for your presto
teflon oil its ok for rubber or plastic, dont degrade parts, isnt toxic
it is the only oil that can be used ( here in Spain ) for alimentary machinery, you can eat this oil ( be carefull, or stand all the day seated in the toilet..)
i use quilube for my lathe for all parts, and dont listen
its transparent

There are probably better oils, but 3 in 1 oil is still commonly available literally everywhere including Home Depot. It has been around for 50 years plus as a light general purpose home oil.
I prefer the sort of oil made for electronic devices like tape machines and phonographs, still typically available through most electronics parts places. And light white grease for the heavier duty portions of things. |
