| The GE toy is a magnetic disc recorder like the Brush mail-a-voice. It does not cut or emboss but there is a sort of tape head in the end of the arm and the discs are coated with oxide like tape. Sort of a very primitive audio floppy disc machine. |

I had a mail a voice at one time - sold it to a friend on the west coast that was doing research. They work pretty well *if* you can keep the stylus on the tracking disc adjusted. Noticed someone has a complete mail a voice with the mic and foot switch currently for sale on ebay. She states "could get it to play but lost the signal". This was common as the tracking knob drifted in and out of adjustment. Have also heard that you get a nice 'thumpy-thump' if you actually try to mail the disc which requires folding it. |
