Why doesn't the heated stylus set the nitro lacquer chip on fire as it's pulled into suction tube, before chip ever gets to water vacuum collection bottle?
Or does it, sometimes?

Never heard of the swarf jar igniting. Obvioulsy the swarf needs to reach a certain temperature befroe it ignites. If it is not sucked into the suction tube and it accumulates around the stylus into a little "ball of wool" then yes, it does ignite and spoils the lacquer.
But the single strand being properly sucked into the suciton tube does not ignite, probably for the same reason that the groove does not melt from the heated stylus. |

Aha, typical heater wire operating temps don't make stylus tip hot enough - Thanks!
